Outdoor summer engagement photos always feel extra romantic with the warm light, soft breezes, and beautiful natural backdrops. Tori and Matt’s summer engagement session was exactly that vibe: nature-inspired, a little moody, and so romantic. We met at a state park in Hanover called Codorus. It’s about an hour south of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was the perfect place for photos with its pretty lake views, tall grass, and tons of privacy. Even though it was a hot Friday morning, we didn’t mind! We took our time catching up, laughing, and meandering around. The result? Adorable candid photos that captured their love story.

I’ve actually known Tori since our high school club volleyball days, so photographing this session felt extra sweet. Tori and Matt went to the same high school, but it wasn’t until after graduating that they reconnected and started dating. They recently moved to Denver for work, and we planned this session to celebrate their engagement while they were home visiting Pennsylvania. I guided them with prompts, then stepped back to capture the candid moments unfolding. The result: romantic, sun-soaked images that feel like they’re right out of a movie.
Their outfits matched the setting perfectly: cotton and linen in tans, greens, and creams. I love when couples choose soft textures for summer engagement photos because they move nicely and photograph so well. Their whole look felt effortless and in harmony with the setting.

I always make time for close-ups, and Tori gave me the cutest reason. She works at an artist’s shop where the rings are handmade. Therefore, I made sure to get some shots focusing on their hands. Those little details are what help tell your story.

I know that being in front of the camera can sometimes feel awkward at first. So during our sessions I guide, cheer you on, and keep the energy light. I’ll give you some simple direction, then step back so it feels natural. With Tori and Matt, we chatted as much as we shot, and it shows! I led them through prompts to bring out their goofy side and capture those romantic candid photos. They walked, twirled, and laughed at jokes. Meanwhile, I watched for those quiet in-between moments I’m obsessed with.

“I’ve known Johanna for years, and seeing her talent behind the camera was such a gift. She captured my fiancée and me beautifully! Every photo feels authentic and full of love. Beyond being an amazing friend, she’s an incredible photographer, and I can’t recommend her enough!”
